Aquino issues proclamation for next year’s holidays

SEVERAL long weekends await Filipinos next year as President Benigno Aquino III has issued a proclamation declaring the regular holidays and special non-working days for 2015.

Aquino issued on July 17 Proclamation 831, declaring the regular holidays, special non-working days, and special holiday for all schools for next year.

The regular holidays include New Year's Day on January 1 (Thursday), Maundy Thursday on April 2, Good Friday on April 3, Araw ng Kagitingan on April 9 (Thursday), Labor Day on May 1 (Friday), Independence Day on June 12 (Friday), National Heroes Day on August 31 (last Monday of August), Bonifacio Day on November 30 (Monday), Christmas Day on December 25 (Friday), and Rizal Day on December 30 (Wednesday).

The special non-working days are Chinese New Year on February 19 (Thursday), Black Saturday on April 4, Ninoy Aquino Day on August 21 (Friday), All Saints Day on November 1 (Sunday), additional special non-working days on January 2 (Friday) and December 24 (Thursday), and last day of the year on December 31 (Thursday).

It will be a special holiday for all schools when the country commemorates the Edsa Revolution Anniversary on February 25 (Wednesday).

Aquino said the proclamations declaring national holidays for the observance of Eid'l Fitr and Eidul Adha shall be issued after the approximate dates of the Islamic holidays have been determined in accordance with the Islamic calendar or the lunar calendar, or upon Islamic astronomical calculations, whichever is possible or convenient. To this end, the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos shall inform the Office of the President on which days the holidays shall respectively fall, he added. (SDR/Sunnex)
