MALACANANG announced Tuesday night the suspension of work in government offices and classes in all levels on Wednesday in Metro Manila and in all areas under public storm warning signal number 2.

Presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said in a text message that upon the recommendation of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) and in view of the inclement weather brought about by Typhoon Glenda (Rammasun), Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa Jr. has decided to suspend work in government offices and classes, both in public and private schools.

"However, agencies whose work involves the delivery of basic and health services, disaster response and other vital public services are exempted from the suspension," he said.

The suspension of work and classes on Wednesday is contained in Memorandum Circular 67.

Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno also called off operations for all courts in Metro Manila on Wednesday, Supreme Court (SC) spokesperson Theodore Te said in an email.

For courts outside the capital region, Te said it is up to the executive judges to make the decision.

The Office of the Bar Confidant, meanwhile, extended the filing of the application to take the 2014 Bar examinations in October to Thursday.

"Despite the suspension of work on July 16, the OBC will be open to receive applications," Te said. (SDR/Virgil Lopez/Sunnex)
