GOVERNMENT prosecutors asked the Sandiganbayan first division on Monday to transfer the detention of Senator Ramon "Bong" Revilla Jr., Richard Cambe and businesswoman Janet Napoles to Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City.

In a motion, the prosecution team said the present places of detention of the three plunder accused were "without legal basis."

Napoles is detained in Fort Sto. Domingo in Santo Rosa City, Laguna while Revilla and his former aide, Cambe, are detained in the Philippine National Police Custodial Center in Camp Crame, Quezon City.

"It is respectfully prayed that the Honorable Court issue an order transferring the detention of the accused Revilla, Cambe and Napoles from PNP Custodial Center in Camp Crame, Quezon City and Fort Santo Domingo, Santa Rosa, Laguna to the BJMP facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City, or other similar facilities of the BJMP," the motion read.

Revilla is accused of amassing P224 million in kickbacks by channeling his Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) allocations to the fake non-government organizations of Napoles, the alleged mastermind in the pork barrel fund scam.

"Aside from lack of basis, the continued detention of the accused at their present locations affords them special treatment as they are subjected to different rules and procedure not afforded to all other detention prisoners under BJMP control," the motion added.

"Accused special treatment creates a negative image of the country's court and justice system. It casts doubt on the government’s capacity to afford equal protection of the law to all citizens," the motion added.

Meanwhile, lawyer Jessica Lucila "Gigi" Reyes sought the permission of the anti-graft court to remain in the intensive care unit (ICU) of the Philippine Heart Center where she is confined since Friday after complaining of chest pains.

The former top aide of Senate Minority Floor Leader Juan Ponce Enrile and co-accused in the plunder case earlier sought for the court's approval of her transfer to PNP Custodial Center inside Camp Crame, citing security reasons. (Sunnex)
