MANILA (Updated) -- Detained lawyer Jessica Lucila “Gigi” Reyes, who is facing a plunder charge, was rushed to the hospital Thursday dawn, hours after she was transferred to her detention cell at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) Female Dormitory in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City.
Around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, Reyes was brought to the Camp Bagong Diwa after the Sandiganbayan third division ordered her transfer from the basement jail of the said court, her temporary cell after her surrender, pending the issuance of the commitment order.
Reyes and her former boss, Senate Minority Floor Leader Juan Ponce Enrile, are co-accused in the plunder and graft charges related to the alleged misuse of Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF).
After the booking process at the said Camp, around 1:05 a.m., Reyes was brought to the Taguig Pateros District Hospital due to "severe panic attack."
Dr. Prudencio Sta. Lucia, medical director of the hospital, said Reyes is possibly experiencing anxiety disorder and hypertension.
The doctor also said that Reyes complained of palpitation or the irregular beating of the heart.
However, based on the laboratory tests, Reyes is experiencing hypertensive urgency or the sudden shoot up of blood pressure, which requires immediate and careful lowering to avoid damaging of internal organs and neuro-circulatory asthenia or breathlessness, Sta. Lucia said.
Sta. Lucia said Reyes is currently confined in the hospital and they are still uncertain as to when the patient will be released.
"She is scheduled to transfer to an air-conditioned room today," the doctor said.
Earlier, Reyes' camp requested that she be detained at the Philippine National Police custodial center at the Camp Crame in Quezon City. It was not granted by the court. (Sunnex)
