MANILA (Updated) -- Juan Ponce Enrile, the third senator to be prosecuted over alleged misuse of the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF), surrendered to police Friday, hours after the Sandiganbayan ordered his arrest.

Enrile turned himself to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) around 5:29 p.m. Friday to face the plunder and graft charges filed against him in connection with the PDAF scam allegedly masterminded by Janet-Lim Napoles.

He was arrested on suspicion of receiving kickbacks from the scam that diverted millions of dollars from anti-poverty funds allotted to lawmakers.

Enrile's former aide Jessica "Gigi" Reyes, a co-accused in the plunder charge, also turned herself in to the police Friday afternoon.

Enrile, a wealthy 90-year-old legislator, was a former Senate president, defense minister and a key aide to late dictator Ferdinand Marcos before turning against him.

He is the third senator to be prosecuted in the case that bolsters President Benigno Aquino III's promise to fight corruption that has plagued the nation of 97 million for decades.

Also arrested earlier for the same charges were Senators Ramon "Bong" Revilla and Jinggoy Estrada, who are now detained at the Philippine National Police custodial center in Camp Crame. (Sunnex/With AP)
