MARRIED couples can do away with unnecessary stress if they engage in more sexual activities, a study said.

“The study (1st Wellness Index in the Philippines) tells that married couples should work more to build intimacy in the marriage because a healthy sex life equates to psychological health,” said Dr. Liza Espiritu, clinic operations manager of PhilhealthCare Inc. (PhilCare).

The study commissioned by the Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) revealed that married persons are getting less sex compared to the widowed or separated individuals.

The 1st Wellness Index in the Philippines noted how a married person only has sex 2.95 times per week compared to the average of a widowed and separated individual with 4.33 and 4.38 times a week, respectively.

Espiritu said that widowed or separated people are already liberated in romantic commitments.

The study added that Filipinos are generally satisfied with their sexual partners, having sex nearly three times a week (2.92) on the average.

Those who said they are satisfied with their partners gave a grade of 2.02 from a range of one to seven, with seven being the worst. People who have good sex life gave a 2.45 rating.

The study, which was held in March this year, involved a total of 1,200 respondents aged 21 to 55 years old from upper income families in Metro Manila, Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

Sixty four percent of the respondents were married. Singles comprise 24 percent while cohabitating compromise 10 percent. (HDT/Sunnex)
