MALACANANG slammed on Friday those who heckled President Benigno Aquino III in Iloilo City.

The Chief Executive was delivering a speech at the inauguration of the two-kilometer portion of Senator Benigno Aquino Jr. Avenue road widening project when a group of protesters shouted at him.

Instead of becoming irritated, Aquino just thanked them.

Presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said that the President always makes it a point to be accessible to the people and one of them is through events such as the one in Iloilo.

"It is regrettable when some people try to lower the public discourse by merely engaging in shouting matches," he said.

This was the second time that Aquino was heckled this month.

When he was delivering a speech also during the Independence Day flag-raising rites in Naga City, a youth protester also shouted at him, prompting police to arrest him.

The protester was only released after posting bail. (SDR/Sunnex)
