MALACANANG said Wednesday that opposition United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) should be patient and wait for the formal announcement of President Benigno Aquino III regarding the possible standard bearer of his Liberal Party come 2016 elections.

Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda was reacting on UNA's statement that they would be concerned if the administration would endorse Senator Grace Poe as its presidential bet who would in effect be an opponent of Vice President Jejomar Binay.

"Insofar as kung sino ang gusto ni Pangulong Aquino, hindi pa siya nagsasalita, so it's too far-fetched. I think, Congressman Toby Tiangco (of Navotas) is a way ahead of himself in trying to divine the intentions of this administration. Let him wait. Be patient. It will come," he said.

Tiangco is UNA's spokesperson.

But Lacierda noted that Aquino has always been saying that the public should vote for next leader who would continue the fight for reform.

"So, does he specify any specific person or any particular individual? He has never specified anyone," he said.

He also noted that based from what he heard from Poe, she was not yet prepared to run for a higher office.

Interior and Local Government Secretary Manuel Roxas II was reportedly being eyed as LP's standard bearer in the 2016 elections. (SDR/Sunnex)
