FILIPINO race car driver Enzo Ferdinand Pastor was shot dead by an unidentified suspect Thursday evening in Quezon City while onboard a truck carrying the sports car, which he will use in the final leg of the Asian v8 Championship.
In an interview, Superintendent Ariel Capocao of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD), said around 10:30 p.m., Pastor's truck was at the corner of the Visayas and Congressional Avenue when a motorcycle-riding suspect appeared and shot the race car driver and his companion.
Pastor was declared dead on arrival at the Quezon City General Hospital while Salazar who sustained minor injuries from the shooting incident was discharged from the hospital on Friday morning.
The suspect immediately fled towards an unidentified direction.
Together with his companion, Paolo Salazar, Pastor came from a car racing competition in Batangas held earlier in the day and was on his way to the Clark International Speedway for another car racing competition organized by his father, Tom Pastor.
Capocao said they already crossed out robbery as the motive of the incident since all of Pastor's personal belongings were kept intact.
"Ang sabi ng father niya wala naman daw siyang alam na may kaaway 'yung anak niya," the police official said.
Capocao said the investigators were checking if there were closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras installed in the area, which could help in identifying Pastor's assailants.
"Ang tinitignan natin ngayon baka connected sa pagiging race car driver niya 'yung pagpatay sa kanya," he said. (Sunnex)
