GOVERNMENT security forces arrested a member of the terrorist group Abu Sayyaf involved in several atrocities in Mindanao, the Philippine National Police's Criminal Investigation and Detection Group said.

CIDG chief Director Benjamin Magalong said the suspect, Moraham Ameng, alias Ameng Alamsirul and Rahang, was nabbed early morning Monday at Bulan-bulan village in Lantawan town, Basilan.

Magalong said Ameng was arrested by virtue of warrants issued by Judge Danilo Bucoy of the Basilan Regional Trial Court for the crime of kidnapping and illegal detention.

He said Ameng was involved in the kidnapping of a doctor and his family, kidnapping of 16 teachers and involved in the ambush-slaying of three coconut plantation workers many years ago.

Magalong said Ameng was once arrested but he broke out of jail. The government has offered a P600,000 reward for his capture. (VR/Sunnex)
