MANILA -- THE trough of a low pressure area (LPA) outside the country will continue to bring rains over Northern Luzon, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Sunday.

Pagasa weather forecaster Buddy Javier said the agency is monitoring the LPA in Taiwan, which will be named "Ester" once it enters the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR).

Javier said the LPA has a slim chance of entering the country in the next 24 hours.

He said the regions of Ilocos, Cordillera, Cagayan Valley and Central Lizon will have cloudy skies with light to moderate rains and thunderstorms.

Metro Manila and the rest of the Philippines will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.

The forecaster added that with the presence of the southwest monsoon, Pagasa may officially declare the end of summer anytime this coming week.

“Kapag napapadalas na ang occurrences ng mga thunderstormsna nagdadala ng mga pag-ulan, precursor na ito na malapit na ang panahon ng tag-ulan,” Javier said.

The southwest monsoon is the dominant weather system during the rainy reason while the easterlies or warm winds from the east are the prevailing wind system during summer. (PNA/Sunnex)
