2 aftershocks hit anew Surigao del Sur

TWO aftershocks hit anew the province of Surigao del Sur on Friday afternoon, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.

The first tremor, with a magnitude of 4.1, hit Cortes in Surigao del Sur at 1:03 p.m. Its epicenter was located at 60 kilometers southeast of Cortez. The quake had a depth of 151 kilometers.

The second aftershock, with a magnitude of 4.8, jolted the province at 2:56 p.m. The tremor was located at 68 kilometers northeast of Cortes. It had a depth of 130 kilometers.

No damage was recorded after the two tremors, Phivolcs said.

On June 1, three aftershocks also hit the province.

Phivolcs said the earthquakes are aftershocks of the magnitude 5.6 earthquake that hit Surigao del Sur on May 30 this year.(JAC/Sunnex)
