ZAMBOANGA CITY – Unidentified gunmen have seized six government surveyors in the hinterlands of Compostela Valley Province, a military official reported on Saturday.
Eastern Mindanao Command (Eastmincom) Information Officer Captain Alberto Caber said the victims are surveyors of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR). They were identified as Kendrik Wong, Nico Lasaca, Chris Favila, Matthew Cua, Jonas Loredo and Tim Sabina.
Caber said the victims were abducted around 2 p.m. Friday in the village of New Leyte, Maco, Compostela Valley (ComVal) while they were on the way to validate and survey a government project under the National Greening Program (NGP) in the area.
Caber said that troops from the Army’s 1001st Infantry Brigade have joined the police forces in tracking down the whereabouts of the victims.
The Municipal Government of Maco has directed the village officials to conduct investigation over the incident since there was no group who claimed responsibility to the abduction of the government surveyors, Caber said.
He said that Eastmincom Commander Ricardo Rainier Cruz III has directed all the military unit commanders in the area to help the local officials, police and DENR in their efforts to locate, rescue and for the safety of the survey inspectors.
“Our primary concern is for the safe release of the civilians,” Cruz said. (Sunnex)
