THE Philippine Government has allotted P170 million for the renovation and construction of police stations in the country.

Department of Interior and Local Government {DILG} Secretary Manuel “Mar” Roxas II said at least 1,700 police offices in the country need repairs under "Oplan Hilamos."

“The objective is to bring dignity back to the PNP officers’ place of work. Sa ganitong paraan, mas mapapabuti ang serbisyo nila sa mamamayan at mapapanatili ang mabuting relasyon nila sa komunidad,” he said.

Police chiefs all over the country will be given a "menu" or list of items they wanted to repair or renovate at their stations, including worn out roofing, toilets, lightings, and paint.

Every police station will be covered by a work program.

On Monday, Roxas went to Albay to inspect the provincial and city PNP offices.

For Albay, the allotted fund for the construction of new police offices is P34.1 million, 16 million for the Tabaco City, P4.6 million for the town of Pio Duran, and P10.5 million to Ligao City. Funds ranging from P200,000 to P300,000 was given to other 14 police stations for the areas that need renovation.

Roxas said the PNP is in need of 77 civilians to man police stations in Albay because other policemen will be deployed to patrol and fight crimes on the streets.

By June, the PNP is expected to hire more than 7,000 non-uniformed personnel (NUP), half of which will replace uniformed personnel equipped with police skills and training but are doing office work in various police stations across the country. (Third Anne Peralta/Sunnex)
