EMBATTLED Laguna Governor Emilio Ramon "ER" Ejercito should not drag Malacanang on his disqualification from office and instead answer the allegations that he overspent during the 2013 midterm polls, a Palace official said Saturday.

Deputy spokesperson Abigail Valte said that it was the Commission on Elections (Comelec), an independent body, that ordered Ejercito to leave his post.

"Siguro ho huwag na ho kaming isama dito dahil kung ang alegasyon po sa kanila ay ang limit daw po for a gubernatorial candidate is 4.5 (million pesos), Comelec found evidence of a transaction or an expense more -- a single transaction na more than 4.5 (million pesos). So, siguro po 'yon na lang din po 'yung dapat nilang sagutin at hindi na po kami isama dito sa usapan wala naman po kaming kinalaman," she said over dzRB Radyo Ng Bayan.

Ejercito accused the Aquino administration of singling him out.

The poll body has unanimously disqualified Ejercito after he was discovered to have spent up to P23.56 million during the entire campaign period for the 2013 midterm elections.

With Laguna's population of 1,525,522, Ejercito was supposedly authorized to spend only up to P4,576,566 during the campaign.

The Comelec ordered Ejercito to vacant the post. Laguna Vice Governor Ramir Hernandez would assume the governorship. (SDR/Sunnex)
