THE Philippine government has spent P9.8 million for the two-day state visit here late last month of United States President Barack Obama, a Palace official said Friday.

Quoting the Office of the Executive Secretary, Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said that the expenses covered cost for the state visit ceremonies, transportation, hotel accommodations, and other various expenses.

Obama, who visited Manila on April 28-29, stayed overnight at Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila's Imperial Residence. An overnight stay there costs at least P300,000 exclusive of tax.

President Benigno Aquino III also hosted a state dinner for Obama in Malacanang which was attended by around 300 people. (SDR/Sunnex)
