THE Philippine Army (PA) recorded Friday the first fatality in the fire and explosion that gutted the Explosive Ordnance Division (EOD) building at the Army Support Command in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City Wednesday morning.
Army spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Noel Detoyato identified the fatality as Corporal Bernabe Mota, 30, and a member of the EOD Battalion.
Mota sustained massive burns from the fire and died around 10:01 a.m. Friday at the AFP Medical Center.
"He was supposed to be transferred to East Avenue Medical Center burn unit this (Friday) morning," Detoyato said.
Mota leaves behind a daughter.
Army commander Lieutenant General Hernando DCA Iriberri, in his visit to the victims at the AFP Medical Center and Army General Hospital on Friday, said that all possible assistance will be given to the victims of the incident.
