MANILA -- Businessman Cedric Lee and his friend Zimmer Raz will still stay at the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) headquarters in Manila, an official of the Department of Justice (DOJ) said Tuesday.
In a phone interview, Prosecutor General Claro Arellano said Judge Esperanza Paz Cortes did not rule on the accused's motion for continued detention at the NBI in a hearing at the Taguig Regional Trial Court branch 271.
He said the warden of the Taguig City Jail was required by the judge to submit a report on the condition of the detention facility before deciding on the motion.
Cortes is hearing the non-bailable serious illegal detention case filed by actor-television host Vhong Navarro, who was mauled by the businessman's group on January 22.
The judge will hold another hearing on May 16 to tackle the bail petition of Lee and Raz.
Lee, Raz, model-stylist Deniece Cornejo and four others will also be arraigned on Thursday on grave coercion cases in relation to the assault at Taguig Metropolitan Trial Court branch 74, Mallonga said.
Meanwhile, Justice Secretary Leila de Lima said the government will surely oppose Cornejo's bid for temporary freedom if the model will ask for it.
"I am sure io-oppose ng mga prosecutor dahil naniniwala ang prosecution na malakas ang kaso," she said. (Sunnex)
