PRESIDENT Benigno Aquino III has named former Senator Francis Pangilinan to a government post with a rank of Cabinet, a Palace official announced Monday.

Pangilinan, a member of administration's Liberal Party, will assume the post of Presidential Assistant for Food Security and Agricultural Modernization, said Presidential Communications Operations Office Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said in a text message.

"This is similar to former Senator (Panfilo) Lacson's appointment. Hence, he will also hold the title of Secretary," he said.

Lacson is currently the Presidential Assistant for Rehabilitation and Recovery for areas ravaged by super typhoon "Yolanda" in November last year.

Coloma said Pangilinan will take his oath of office on Tuesday afternoon in Malacanang. (SDR/Sunnex)
