MANILA -- A Taguig Court entered a not guilty plea on behalf of detained businessman Cedric Lee and his friend Zimmer Raz after the two refused Wednesday to enter a plea on the serious illegal detention case filed against them by actor Vhong Navarro.
The arraignment was set Wednesday afternoon at the Taguig Regional Trial Court (RTC) branch 271.
Alma Mallonga, Navarro's lawyer, also confirmed in a phone interview the outcome of the hearing, which was off limits to media.
Lee and Raz were accompanied by lawyer Howard Calleja and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) agents. The two were arrested in Oras, Eastern Samar last Saturday and were brought to the NBI headquarters on Sunday.
Still in hiding are Ferdinand Guerrero, Jed Fernandez, and Deniece Cornejo, whose alleged rape at a Taguig condominium triggered Navarro's mauling by Lee and company in January 22.
Navarro claimed he was set up by Cornejo to allow Lee to extort P2 million from him.
Lee and Raz were brought back to the NBI headquarters in Manila pending their transfer to the Taguig City Jail.
Mallonga said Judge Paz Esperanza Cortes of RTC branch 271 will hear on May 6 Lee and Raz’s motion for continuous detention at the NBI, bail petition, and preliminary conference on the case. (Sunnex)
