6 dead in Zambo Sur bus accident-A A +A

ILIGAN CITY -- Six persons, mostly minors, died and at least 16 others were injured when the passenger bus they were riding fell into a ditch in Aurora town in Zamboanga del Sur on Sunday.
Three of the fatalities -- identified as Kent Jhon Lachica, 7; Jorelyn Lachica, 14; and Clenie Chiarra Lachica, 16, all of Lala, Lanao del Norte -- died on the spot.
The three others -- Lilia Billetes, in her 60s, of Pagadian City; Jhecyl Nicdao, 2, of Cagayan de Oro City; and Rev in John Languyan, 3 months, of Tigbao, Zamboanga del Sur -- were declared dead at the Kapatagan Provincial Hospital.
Inspector Kenneth Soon, deputy chief of Aurora police station, said the incident occured around 12:10 p.m. along a national highway in Purok 1, Barangay Anonang.
Soon said the Rural Transit bus, driven by Biato Dumpa, was negotiating a curve when the driver lost control of the steering wheel.
He said the bus, which was en route to Cagayan de Oro City from Pagadian City, then fell to its right side.
Dumpa is now under police custody, facing charges. (VR/Richel V. Umel/Sunnex)
