(UPDATED) Police arrested former Commission on Audit (COA) chief Reynaldo Villar in connection with a plunder case involving P366 million of Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) intelligence funds.

Philippine National Police (PNP) spokesperson Reuben Theodore Sindac said members of the PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) arrested Villar in his house in Merville Park, Paranaque City Thursday afternoon.

Villar is facing a non-bailable charge of plunder along with several others, including the former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, who is now under hospital detention at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC) in Quezon City.

In July 2011, Risa Hontiveros-Baraquel, Jaime Regalario and retired Army general Danilo Lim filed plunder charges against Arroyo and several COA and PCSO officials before the Ombudsman for allegedly conspiring to funnel P366 million from PCSO fund to their personal bank accounts.

The anti-graft court Sandiganbayan issued arrest warrants against the accused in September 2012.

Former PCSO officials Benigno Aguas and Rey Roquero surrendered to authorities in October 2012 and January 2013, respectively. The court allowed both accused to post bail for their temporary freedom.

Meanwhile, another PCSO official Jose Taruc V surrendered in February 2014 and is currently behind bars.

Villar was immediately brought to the PNP-CIDG detention facility in Camp Crame in Quezon City for processing. He was brought to Sandiganbayan Friday afternoon. (Sunnex)
