POLICE identified Thursday one of the suspects in the murder of Gonzaga, Cagayan Mayor Carlito Pentecostes Jr.
Cagayan Valley police director Chief Superintendent Miguel Laurel said David Soriano, alias Ka Colly, was identified through a footage taken by a closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera which was installed in the Gonzaga town hall grounds.
Pentecostes was fatally shot last Monday, April 21, by unidentified armed men when he was about to deliver a speech during the flag raising ceremony at the Gonzaga municipal hall. The suspects fled on board a police vehicle.
Authorities identified Soriano, who is allegedly the commander of the New People's Army Northern Front Committee, as the one wearing a military uniform in the CCTV footage.
Laurel earlier said there is a possibility that members of the NPA were behind the killing. "'Yung mga leaflets na ikinalat nila after ng pamamaril, isa din ‘yun sa mga naging basis natin para sabihin na malaki ang chance na NPA ang pumatay kay mayor ngayon nadagdag pa ang CCTV footage, but we will continue to investigate."
The hard drive of the CCTV camera was immediately brought to Manila for decoding and for further investigation. (Sunnex)
