3 kidnap-for-ransom men nabbed

ZAMBOANGA CITY – Combined police and military forces arrested three suspected members of a kidnap-for-ransom-group (KFRG) in the province of Zamboanga Sibugay, the police said Thursday.

Arrested in the village Timbang-Timbang, Alicia, Zamboanga Sibugay were Abral Abdusalam, Rating Hadjirul, and Kismir Hadjirul.

Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula (PRO-9) spokesman Senior Inspector Joseph Ortega said the suspects were arrested when the combined forces swooped down around 5:50 p.m. Monday at the residence of Hadjirul in the village of Timbang-Timbang, Alicia town, to serve warrant of arrest against Abdusalam.

Abdusalam is the brother of Waning, the leader of the notorious kidnapping syndicate operating in the region.

Ortega said that Abral has standing warrant of arrest for kidnapping and illegal possession of firearms and explosives.

Among the confiscated items from the suspects were an M-16 Armalite rifle with ammunition, a fragmentation grenade, two mobile phones, and police and military uniforms.
