MALACANANG congratulated Sarangani Representative Manny Pacquiao on his rousing victory over American boxer Timothy Bradley in their rematch on Sunday.

In a statement, deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said that Pacquiao serves as an inspiration for many Filipinos.

"Truly, Manny is an inspiration for so many of our countrymen. After our country was hit by disaster after disaster last year, Manny serves as a symbol of our recovery. Our message to the world is clear: While vicious storms may knock us down, we will always stand back up. The deep faith, solidarity, and strength of will of the Filipino people will always prove stronger," she said.

Pacquiao has showcased the Filipino's heart and determination to overcome challenges, Vice President Jejomar Binay said.

"Manny will always be the people's champion. He inspires all of us to push ourselves to greater heights, to always believe in ourselves and in the Almighty, and see the limitless possibilities that await us," he said.

His daughter, Senator Nancy Binay, noted how Pacquiao endured the training and stood steadfast against Bradley's punches.

"The pain was nothing," she said.

In a unanimous decision of 116-112, 116-112, 118-110, Pacquiao reclaimed the WBO welterweight belt he lost to Bradley in a controversial decision in June 2012 when they first faced each other on the ring. (Virgil Lopez/SDR/Sunnex)
