Palace hails results of Aquino's performance, trust ratings-A A +A
Thursday, April 10, 2014
(UPDATED) Malacanang on Thursday welcomed the results of a latest survey showing only a "marginal" drop on President Benigno Aquino III's performance and trust ratings.
In its latest report, Pulse Asia said that seven in 10 Filipinos (70 percent) have expressed appreciation for the work done by the President in the first quarter of this year. Only eight percent disapproved while 22 percent were undecided.
Aquino's latest performance rating was a slight decline from 73 percent in last quarter of 2013.
People from Visayas and Mindanao have high ratings for the President’s performance than Metro Manilans (72 percent to 80 percent vs 57 percent).
As to the President's trustworthiness, Pulse Asia said that 69 percent of the 1,200 respondents have trust in him from 74 percent during the last quarter of 2013.
Distrust is a sentiment shared by 9 percent of Filipinos while 22 percent were ambivalent. Aquino got relatively higher trust levels in the rest of Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao than in Metro Manila (69 percent to 76 percent vs 57 percent).
However, the polling firm said that changes on the President's performance and trust ratings between December 2013 and March 2014 were "not considered significant" in light of the relevant error margins of +/-3 percent.
The survey was conducted on March 19-26 amid some issues being faced by the government, such as the ongoing investigation into the supposed pork barrel scam, arrest of alleged housing scam leader Delfin Lee, power crisis in Mindanao, and apprehension of two top leaders of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People's Army, among others.
"The most recent sampling of public opinion is the latest manifestation that the President's efforts, his governance, and the administration's mission to empower our people by instituting permanent change, are indivisible from the aspirations and efforts of our people as a whole," deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said in a statement.
She said the survey results steel the resolve of the President and his team to accelerate even further the pursuit of progress, as they continue to tread the straight path to inclusive growth. (SDR/Virgil Lopez/Sunnex)
