THE Eastern Visayas Regional Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (RDRRMC) asked local government units to brace for rains that will be dumped by Tropical Depression “Domeng.”

Office of the Civil Defense Regional Director and RDRRMC Chairman Rey Gozon said since Saturday, local authorities have been advised to alert residents, particularly those in low-lying areas and landslide-prone areas.

“The public is more conscious about disaster risk reduction management. We just need to provide accurate information to guide them,” Gozon said.

Advisories have been sent by the RDRRMC through text messages since telecommunication facilities and internet services are not fully restored in several areas of the region.

“We are hoping that the impact will only be minimal since we are still rising from the negative impacts of Yolanda,” Gozon said.

Local governments of Southern Leyte were told by RDRRMC to closely monitor volume of rains and ask residents of landslide-prone areas to move to safer grounds. (PNA)
