Palace vows to go after killers of Remate correspondent

(UPDATED) Malacanang on Monday condemned the killing of a female journalist from Cavite as it vowed to go after the perpetrators.

Presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda expressed condolences to the family of 52-year-old Rubylita Garcia, correspondent of Remate.

"We extend our condolences to the family of the late Rubylita Garcia and we promise that we will pursue this heinous death of… And we will, as we have said, tracker teams are already in place to look for the suspect," he said in a press briefing.

In a report from the Philippine National Police (PNP), Lacierda said that the investigator on case was able to produce artist's sketch through statement of lone witness whose identity would be kept confidential.

"A dedicated tracker team was organized and conducting follow up operations against the suspect," he said.

Cavite provincial police director Joselito Esquivel Jr. said that based on description provided by the witness the gunman was a male, more or less 30 years old, stands six feet tall, medium built, with fair complexion and tattoo in the arms.

Garcia, a correspondent of Remate for the last 20 years and was a broadcaster in a local radio station, was attacked by two suspects inside her house in Bacoor, Cavite on Sunday. She died in a hospital while being treated.

In a media briefing Monday, PNP spokesperson Chief Superintendent Reuben Theodore Sindac said the police authorities have put their best effort to solve Garcia's murder case.

"We will abide by and comply with the instruction of the Palace through a Special Investigating Task Group (SITG),” he said.

The National Union Journalists of the Philippines said Garcia was the 20th journalist killed under the Aquino administration and the 160th since 1986. (SDR/Third Anne Peralta/Sunnex)
