MANILA (Updated 10:05 p.m.) -- A person was injured after a shooting incident occurred at SM Mall of Asia in Pasay City Sunday evening.

Southern Police District Director Erwin Villacorte said the victim who was immediately brought to the hospital is an employee of an ice cream parlor inside the mall.

On his Twitter account, Steven Tan, vice president for operations for SM malls, said: "At 7:14 p.m., the martilyo gang had struck a jewelry counter at the SM store in MOA."

Reports said the mall's security guards heard several gunshots around 7:30 p.m., prompting the public to panic and run to different directions to ensure their safety.

Villacorte said the commotion started at the mall's Supermarket but the police are suspecting that the real target of the perpetrator is the Jewelry shop.

A suspected member of "Martilyo Gang" was nabbed by the authorities after the incident. The suspect is now under the custody of Pasay police for interrogation. The situation inside the mall has been placed under control. (Sunnex)
