CLOUDY and rainy weather will continue to prevail in many parts of the country on Monday due to the presence of a low pressure area (LPA) inside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) reported.

In an interview, Pagasa weather forecaster Rene Paciente said that as of 4 a.m. Monday, the LPA was estimated based on all available data at the vicinity of Sulu Sea.

He said the LPA has slim chance to re-intensify into Tropical Depression Caloy.

Tropical Depression Caloy was the first cyclone to affect the country this month and the third for the year.

Paciente said the LPA is expected to dissipate inside PAR or will likely exit the country either Tuesday.

He said most parts of the Visayas are projected to have cloudy skies with moderate to occasionally heavy because of the weather disturbance and wind convergence.

He noted that the regions of Northern Mindanao, Bicol, Mimaropa and the provinces of Surigao will experience cloudy skies with light to moderate rainshowers and thunderstorms due to the wind convergence coning from northeasterly surface windflow, easterlies and also from the LPA that extends to these areas.

He added that Cagayan Valley region and the province of Aurora will have cloudy skies with light rains while Metro Manila and the rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms.

In its advisory, Pagasa said that moderate to strong winds from the northeast will prevail over Luzon and Visayas and coming from the east to northeast over Mindanao.

The coastal waters throughout the archipelago will be moderate to rough.

Pagasa also issued gale warning as strong to gale-force winds associated with the northeasterly surface windflow, will affect the seaboards of Northern Luzon, the eastern seaboard of Central and Southern Luzon, and the eastern seaboard of Visayas. (PNA)
