THE City of Cerritos in Los Angeles, California has appointed Mark Pulido as its first Filipino-American mayor.
Pulido was unanimously voted by the City Council on March 20 (March 19 -Philippine time).
In its official website, the Cerritos City described Pulido as "a proud Cerritos resident since 1972, Mayor Pulido has an extensive history of local community service and professional work experience in local, state and federal government."
The Filipino-American mayor was elected to the ABC Unified School district board in 2001, and was re-elected in 2005 and 2009. He served as the board president in 2007 to 2008.
In 2009, the Los Angeles County Office of Education honored Pulido as the "Board Member of the Year."
Fellow Filipinos abroad, including the Filipino Alumni Association of the University of Califarnia, Los Angeles (UCLA), took to Twitter to show their support:

Pulido received his bachelor's degree in History and Asian American Studies from the UCLA. He received his Master of Public Policy degree from the University of Chicago as a Woodrow Wilson National Fellow.
