ZAMBOANGA CITY – The public school teacher abducted more than two months ago was released in the province of Zamboanga Sibugay, an education official said Tuesday.

City Schools Division Superintendent Pedro Melchor Natividad said Cathy Mae Casipong was released around 6:15 p.m. Tuesday along the national highway in the village of Sanito, Ipil, the capital town of Zamboanga Sibugay.

Natividad said based on initial report he received from Ipil town that Casipong was met by her parents after she was made to disembark from a vehicle by the abductors.

“They are now at the headquarters of the (Army’s) 102nd Infantry Brigade in Ipil,” Natividad said.

It was not known whether ransom was paid in exchange for the release of Casipong, a teacher of Sibogtok Primary School in the village of Limaong, 83 kilometers east of the city.

Casipong, 23, was seized by 10 gunmen aboard two motorized bancas last December 18 near Sitio Paraitan, Limaong.

Casipong and her co-teachers were aboard a motorized banca on the way to the city proper via the village of Vitali, 73 kilometers east of this city, when the gunmen waylaid and seized her.

The suspects sped towards the direction of Zamboanga Sibugay province.

Natividad said that Casipong will be given time to go on vacation and will be given a new assignment. (Sunnex)
