Confirmation of COA's Heidi Mendoza hangs-A A +A
Tuesday, March 4, 2014
THE confirmation of Commission on Audit (COA) commissioner Heidi Mendoza hangs as Senator Jinggoy Estrada has reserved the right to grill the official in the next hearing of the Commission on Appointments (CA).
"I'm excited to meet him," Mendoza told reporters in an ambush interview.
Estrada, who is accused of plunder before the Office of the Ombudsman for his supposed link to the pork barrel scam, had vowed to block the confirmation of Mendoza.
In a special audit report, the COA earlier said that Estrada, along with Senators Ramon Revilla Jr. and Juan Ponce Enrile, used their Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) allocation from 2007 to 2009 for dubious non-government organizations put up by alleged pork scam queen Janet Lim-Napoles.
The COA official begged for the CA's approval asserting that she was never dishonest and incompetent in performing her duties.
"I am begging for this committee...Pabalik-balik na ako dito. Ako'y inggit na inggit," Mendoza said.
Commissioners Al Parreno and Lui Guia of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) have both been confirmed by the CA committee. The two will face the CA plenary Wednesday.
"In my 22 years of service, I was never charged. I have been very transparent and committed and I believe that someday that I will deserve the approval of this commission," Mendoza also said. (Sunnex)
