KATMANDU, Nepal -- An overloaded boat capsized in a river in western Nepal, killing at least four people and leaving seven missing, police said Sunday.

The boat was carrying goods and about 25 people from jobs near the Indian border village of Belraya when it capsized, police officer Mohan Joshi said. He said the boat was overloaded, but did not say what its capacity was.

About a dozen people survived the accident Saturday night by swimming to the banks of the Mohana River in Nepal's Kailali District, about 650 kilometers (400 miles) west of the capital, Katmandu.

The two women and two children who drowned, as well as the seven still missing, are all from Nepal's Lalbojhi village.

Police are investigating the incident. (AP)
