MANILA – Amid the controversies he is involved in, Senator Jinggoy Estrada managed to throw a simple celebration for his 51st birthday at his office in the Senate building Monday.

Among the notable guests attending the senator's birthday gathering, were Minority Leader Juan Ponce Enrile and Senator Ramong "Bong" Revilla Jr., Estrada's fellow accused in the plunder case filed by the Department of Justice (DOJ) before the Office of the Ombudsman.

When Revilla arrived, Estrada jokingly called him "kakosa" which means fellow inmate.

"Sa mga panahon na ganito, don't take it seriously. Baka mamatay ka pag sineryoso yung mga binabato sayo, baka mamatay ka, atakahin ka sa puso so just take it lightly katulad ng ginagawa niya pero syempre ayoko namin maging kakosa siya. Ayokong makulong kami," Revilla told reporters.

"Yung pagsubok na dinadaanan namin, hindi ko akalain pareho pa kaming mapasok sa ganitong pagsubok na hindi mo inaasahan pero ganun pa man, mananaig pa rin ang katotohanan," Revilla added. Both Revilla and Estrada also have careers in the showbiz industry.

Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada and Senator Estrada's half-brother, Senator JV Ejercito, also dropped by to greet the senator.

Senator Estrada said it was mixed feelings as he turned 51 because he was celebrating his birthday while facing a plunder suit.

Estrada said he "misses" Ruby Tuason, a longtime friend of the Estrada family who could possibly turn state witness in relation to the plunder charges, because it was her who used to organize his parties.

"Namimiss ko na nga siya eh. Dahil last year, siya yung nagprepare, ngayon ako na lahat," he said.

Last week, Tuason testified that she personally delivered Estrada's kickbacks from the projects handled by alleged pork scam queen Janet Lim-Napoles.

Members of the Senate minority bloc also wished Estrada strength amid the accusations hurled against him.

"Katulad nga ng sinabi ni Senator Enrile, in life there's ups and downs so kung down ngayon, for sure, may ups din. Ang wish ko lang to give him (Estrada) more strength kasi hindi biro yung pinagdadaanan ngayon eh," Senator Nancy Binay said.

Senator Gringo Honasan wished Estrada "strength of mind, body and spirit so that he can continue to serve good."

Live your life one day at a time, Senator Vicente Sotto III advised Estrada.

"Sa politika, alam na niya how to roll with the punches," Sotto said. (Sunnex)
