MANILA (2nd Update, 6:53 p.m.) -- No bomb was found at the Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) after nearly an eight-hour search by police canine units on Wednesday.

Quezon City Police District (QCPD) chief Richard Albano said the bomb threat was a hoax. He said investigation is ongoing to identify the motive and the person who sent the threat.

The university cancelled afternoon classes and office work on Wednesday after being alerted by a bomb threat against the campus.

The hoax bomb threat was sent through a text message to three university employees around 9 a.m., said Sonia Araneta, ADMU Corporate Communications director.

The text message reads: "May bomba na sasabog sa Ateneo paniguradong madaming empleyado at estudyante and mamamatay, 30 minutos mula ngayon (A bomb will explode in Ateneo. Surely many students and employees will die. 30 minutes from now)."

The QCPD deployed five teams at ADMU to conduct the bomb sweep, said Albano.

At 5 p.m., ADMU president Jose Ramon Villarin issued a memorandum to announce the resumption of work and classes on February 13, but he told the university community to "please expect tighter security measures after this incident."

"This morning, we were informed of a text message sent to our staff about a bomb threat on campus. I would like to inform everyone that the campus has been cleared already by PNP (Philippine National Police) bomb squads," Villarin said.

Villarin assured that Ateneo is still a safe campus. "I'm very proud of our evacuation today."

In a press conference, the ADMU president said the university will tighten its security by adding the number of security personnel deployed in the campus. (Sunnex)
