THE camp of Pampanga Representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on Wednesday warned the Aquino administration would have to bear with the consequences should anything untoward happens to the ailing former leader while she is under hospital detention for a plunder case.

Lawyer Ferdinand Topacio, Arroyo's counsel, said that based on her medical records, the former President's condition continues to decline as she remains inside the Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC).

The anti-graft court Sandiganbayan's junking of the Arroyo's petition for bail contributes to her deteriorating condition, the lawyer said.

Although Arroyo is relatively in good shape, Topacio said that her prolonged confinement in hospital is not good for her. He said that she has difficulty eating, which made her lose weight, and she does not get enough sunlight.

Topacio said that a medical resolution stated that she needs to be brought to a "more treatment protocol hospital."

Meanwhile, former first lady and now Ilocos Norte Representative Imelda Marcos brought a bouquet of red roses when she visited the detained former President in her hospital suite on Wednesday.

Marcos said that during the regime of President Ferdinand Marcos, former senator Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino Jr., father of President Benigno Aquino III and a staunch critic of the Marcos, was given financial assistance and was allowed to have a medical check-up in Boston, USA.

Topacio said that Arroyo's father, former President Diosdado Macapagal, harbored no ill feelings and remained civil with his successor Ferdinand Marcos after being defeated in the 1965 national elections.

Arroyo is facing plunder charges in connection with the alleged misuse of Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) intelligence funds.

Aside from the former first lady, retired Archbishop Oscar Cruz, former vice president Noli de Castro and Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada and former president Fidel Ramos have previously visited Arroyo in VMMC. (Sunnex)
