MANILA – Three shipping vessels reportedly ran aground in Central Visayas, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) reported on Thursday.

Commander Armando Balilo, Coast Guard Public Affairs chief said rescue personnel are currently assisting 237 passengers after M/V Joyful Star accidentally hit the sea floor while sailing along the vicinity off Bantolinao Point long Mactan Channel in Cebu before midnight of Wednesday.

As of 1 p.m. Thursday, rescue personnel from Coast Guard Station-Cebu are still evacuating the affected passengers using rubber boats while the ship captain is waiting for the next high tide attempting the retrieve the ship from its grounded position.

Meanwhile, cargo vessel M/V Subic Bay 1 also reportedly ran aground along the area of Mactan Channel around 2:44 a.m. Thursday.

Balilo said that the vessel is supposedly on its way to Pier 7 of Cebu Port Terminal when the ship captain did not notice that the ship already hit the sea floor.

The cargo vessel is currently waiting for its company motor tug boat M/Tug 4 to remove the ship in the area.

Also, 90 passengers were rescued and placed to safety as M/V Our Lady of All Nations ran aground along Danajon Bank in Bohol while supposedly on its way to Cebu Port.

Coast Guard 56-meter search and rescue vessel BRP-Edsa (SARV-002) that is just near the area 2.6 nautical miles off Mabini Point in Cebu immediately responded to render assistance to the distressed passengers.

The management of the shipping vessel is already coordinating with Malayan Towage for the removal of M/V Our Lady of All Nation from its current position. (Sunnex)
