The Basilica, one of the churches in the Visayas affected by the 7.2-magnitude earthquake that struck the province of Bohol and Cebu in October, will be closed as the reconstruction of its belfry is still ongoing. The masses, however, will be held at the Pilgrim Center.

Rev. Fr. Jonas Mejares, rector of the Basilica, said some changes will be implemented in this year’s celebration, like the addition of 4 a.m. novena masses, setup of TV screens outside the Basilica, and the modification of the reenactment of the Baptism of Queen Juana and Rajah Humabon.

Mejares said the Basilica will also deploy more lay ministers, as the population of the devotees is expected to triple compared to last year’s record.

The Fiesta Señor 2014, with a theme "Sto. Nino: Hope of the people, Siya atong paglaom, Siya atong sagdigan," aims to inspire the people not to lose hope despite the series of calamities the country experienced in 2013.

"Kung ang 2013 pagsuway, ang 2014 maoy paglaum," Mejares added.

The rector also asked the public to follow the rules and regulations given by the Church during the celebration of the Fiesta Señor to prevent unnecessary accidents.
