MALACANANG on Saturday said that it will wait for the separate studies being conducted by the Commission on Higher Education (Ched) and the Department of Education (DepEd) proposals to move the school opening from June to a later month.
Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said that the Ched and DepEd have been conducting separate studies since moving the opening of classes may have different effects on students in elementary, high school and college.
"We will defer to the position taken by Ched. Sa DepEd, magka-iba ang posisyon ng dalawa when it comes to moving the opening of classes to September," she said.
"These are proposals being studied by both institutions. Hintayin natin ang magiging resulta ng kanilang pagaaral," she added.
The DepEd has jurisdiction over schools up to the high school level while Ched has jurisdiction over colleges and universities.
There were proposals to adjust the academic calendar from June to August or September, similar to the rest of the world. (SDR/Sunnex)
