Aquino skips schedule due to allergy attack-A A +A

PRESIDENT Benigno Aquino III failed to attend the inauguration of a bridge in Ilocos Sur Thursday morning because he was not feeling well due to allergy attack.
In a text message to reporters, deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said that the presidential sister, Viel Aquino-Dee, instead represented him and she was joined by Public Works Secretary Rogelio Singson and Defense Secretary Voltaire Gazmin during the event.
"The President will be unable to attend the inauguration of Aluling bridge in Ilocos Sur as previously scheduled as he is feeling under the weather. The President will instead remain in Manila to take a bit of rest," she said earlier in the day.
Valte said that the President's allergic attack was due to flowers, which was all over when he attended last Tuesday the anniversary of the Philippine National Police in Camp Crame in Quezon City.
"It is not due to the floral arrangements at the Palace which are put in strategic places. President was surrounded by flowers at the PNP event last Tuesday," she said, recalling that when Aquino was in a visit in Australia in October last year, he had similar allergic reaction, prompting him to skip a dinner hosted by then Prime Minister Julia Guillard.
She said that the other supposed schedule of the President, a meeting with Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa Jr., was also cancelled.
Valte said the President was in Bahay Pangarap and was resting.
Aquino was supposed to lead the inauguration of the Aluling bridge at 10 a.m. in Barangay Aluling, Cervantes, Ilocos Sur.
The President's younger sister, Viel, who delivered his speech, apologized to the Ilocanos because Aquino was not able to attend the event as he lost his voice. (SDR/Sunnex)
