MANILA - Nine months pregnant Rachel Donaire, wife of Filipino boxing champ Nonito Donaire Jr., was admitted in a hospital on Saturday (Manila time) for "fetal monitoring" after she saved a friend's son from drowning.

"During 4th of July, a friend's son disappeared underneath the water. Rachel didn't hesitate to jump in to save the kid but injured herself in the process," the four-division world boxing champion said on Twitter.

"She moved so quickly it scared me," he added.

The next morning, Donaire said his wife woke up with "sharp pain" and was admitted in the hospital where she was monitored for over an hour and was diagnosed with a strained ligament.

Doctors said Rachel and the baby are safe but Donaire's wife was ordered bed rest for a couple days.

The "Filipino Flash" said that his wife is on her ninth month this July with the couple's first child.

The boxing champ's friends and supporters hailed the "Knockout Queen" for her "heroic act."
