MANILA -- Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert del Rosario reiterated Friday to the Apostolic Nuncio in the Philippines, Archbishop Guiseppe Pinto, the invitation of President Benigno Aquino III for Pope Francis to visit the Philippines.

The invitation was conveyed during a get-together lunch hosted by the Apostolic Nuncio for Del Rosario and other officials of the Department of Foreign Affairs on May 8.

The Apostolic Nuncio assured Del Rosario that he has conveyed the invitation to the Vatican and would welcome the honor and opportunity to assist the Pope during the visit, the DFA said.

Archbishop Pinto entered the Diplomatic Service of the Holy See in 1984 and served, successively, in Papal representations in Papua New Guinea, Argentina and the Vatican.

Prior to his appointment as Apostolic Nuncio in the Philippines in 2011, he held the position of Apostolic Nuncio in Chile. (SDR/Sunnex)
