MANILA -- Joint police and anti-narcotics agents have arrested recently a Nigerian-born American national in a buy-bust operation after he was caught red-handed selling shabu to a poseur-buyer in Tuguegarao City, Cagayan, an official said Saturday.

Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) director general Undersecretary Arturo Cacdac Jr. identified the foreign national as Scoec Bosco, 40, married and a resident of No. 79 Quirino Highway, Novaliches, Quezon City. He holds a United States passport but he is Nigerian by birth. He claims that he is here in the Philippines for visit and said he was a car dealer.

Around 11 a.m., on February 7, authorities conducted a buy-bust operation in a first class hotel in Barangay 6, Tuguegarao City, which resulted in the apprehension of Bosco after he sold a plastic sachet of shabu worth P30,000 to an agent who acted as poseur-buyer. Further confiscated from his possession were two pieces of zip-lock plastic bags containing shabu weighing more or less 200 grams and estimated to have a market value of P1.75 million.

Upon investigation, the PDEA chief disclosed that Bosco is allegedly a member of a trans-national drug trafficking syndicate and the identification cards he presented were fake. The agency is still waiting for confirmation from partner agencies if the suspect's passport is genuine.

The suspect is currently temporarily detained at a PDEA detention facility and the pieces of evidence were turned over to Philippine National Police Crime Laboratory for custody.

Cases for violation of Section 5 (Sale of Dangerous Drugs) and Section 11 (Possession of Dangerous Drugs), Article II of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, are now being prepared for filing in court against the suspect, Cacdac said. (SDR/Sunnex)
