City High scores second; Berkeley wins anew

BAGUIO City National High School and Berkeley School scored contrasting wins during the weekend to keep their chances alive for a semis berth in the ongoing Milo SBP – Passerelle Twin Tournament at the Easter College Gym.

City High crippled Our Lady of Mt Carmel Montessori, 105-38, to notch their second win in three outings in the passerelle division while SBP defending champion Berkeley locked in their second win an as many games by edging University of the Cordilleras Elementary School, 50 – 20 to keep their grand slam hopes alive.

Brix Diso fueled a 29-6 finish in the second period to put City High up by 32, 41-9, at halftime after leading by only nine at the end of the opening canto, 12-3.


City High continued the onslaught in the third period after erupting for 36 points in ten minutes of play while allowing Mt Carmel to only score nine points in the entire period.

Denver Gundran finished with a game high of 16 points while Dizo added 13, nine of which he scored in the second canto. Michael Chico and Kristoffer Huab added 12 points each.

Meanwhile, Saint Louis University Laboratory High School team A waylaid Ednas School of Dagupan with a 100 – 44 victory in the other passerelle match –up also played during the weekend.

SLU-A started strong in erecting a double digit advantage at the close of the first quarter, 25-11, before closing the first half with a huge 54-21 lead.

The win by SLU-A saw five players scoring in double digit led by Lyndon Matbagan with 12 while Angelo Cachoy, Gian genove and Sherwin De Guzman chipped in 11 apiece as Magnus Ines added 10.

SLU’s victory was a follow-up in their earlier drubbing of defending champion Saint Louis College La Union, 159-25.

In other passerelle games, Mt. Carmel blasted Baguio Patriotic High School, 71-50. Patriotic was earlier devoured by UC High School, 83-11.

In SBP, SLU Lab. Elem. School used a solid fourth quarter run to turn back Lucban Elementary School, 31 – 30 after a slow start in the opening canto trailing 2-11 after the first 10 minutes of the ball game.

Trailing 25-15 at the end of three quarters, SLU-LES limited Lucban to only five points in the payoff canto to secure the win with Jaybesh Nafuran pouring in a game high of nine points.

SLU-LES earlier toppled Mt. Carmel – 39 – 36 led by Peirce Bugayong who had nine while Saudenes Parone and Nafuran adding eight and seven each.

UC Elem. School also snatched an earlier win over Mt. Carmel, 56 – 23, with Lance Galanza and Karnam Villareal leading charge with 13 and 12 points each.

In other SBP games, Lucban leaned on Dixon Matsu’s 13 points to edge Mt. Carmel, 37-34, while SLU LES snapped University of Baguio – LES, 68 – 30.
