Scrabble tilt set for Baguio day festivity

TILE PUSHERS from around the region including nearby La Union will try to outwit each other as the Baguio - Benguet Word Builders Club will hold the 2014 Baguio Day Scrabble Tournament on August 30 and 31 at the Baguio Museum.

The tournament will have an eight round straight king of the hill format and will follow the WESPA rules and use the Collins Scrabble Word 2012 list and the Zyzzyva program as word judge.

Top finisher in the open division will receive P8,000 in cash prize while the second placer P6,000 with the 3rd, 4th, 5th gets P4,000, P2,000, and P1,000 with the sixth placer receiving P500 in cash prize.


In the student division, the champion gets P3,000 while the second placer receives P2,000 with the third placer getting P1,000.

Both last placers in the two divisions will be receiving a sausage while the players who has the highest bingo, the highest score and highest loosing score gets P500.

Players from as far as Batangas, Manila, Cebu, and Pangasinan has already signified their intention to join the two day tournament.

Registration for the two day event will be at P800 while students and new comers will be charged P400 which includes two meriendas each day.

The scrabble tournament are just among the few sports events lined up for the Baguio Day Celebration.

Events include the Mountaing Bike Cross (Photography Contest), Baguio Golf Tournament, Baguio Day Bowling Fest 2014 and Baguio Day Age Group Judo Tournament all slated on August 31, 2014.

CAR Taekwondo (September 06), Sports Karatedo Against Drug Abuse (Septenber 07), Milo Little Olympics - Regional Elimination (September5-14), National Arnis Championship 2014 (September 19-20), and Baguio Day Archery Age Group Competition (September 20-21) was also calendared in the month long celebration of the city’s founding.

Mr. Baguio 2014 and the Baguio Fun Run to be held on September 26, and Baguio Sports Peace 3-in-1 Championship(wrestling, weightlifting, and muay thai on September 26- 28) will also see action. (Roderick Osis with a report from Supremo Acosta/ISU –Echague Intern)
