THE Baguio – Benguet Educational Athletic League’s season 28 is set to open with flare at the Cordillera Career Development College gym on August 30.

28th BBEAL commissioner and athletic director of host school Baguio College of Technology Willy Antonio confirmed the opening rites will be housed in La Trinidad.

“The technical committee was trying to house it somewhere in Baguio City, however we cannot manage to get a schedule,” Antonio said.
Earlier, BBEAL was announced to kick-off at the University of the Cordilleras gym but due to the availability of the venue, the opening was moved to CCDC.

“We also asked for the University of Baguio and Saint Louis University gymnasiums however they can offer a date later than the scheduled one,” Antonio said.

“CCDC told their venue will be available so we agreed to house it there, we already had a scheduled time frame and if we will be waiting for the city based gyms the committee agreed that we will be too late with all the activities,” Antonio added.

The largest collegiate sports association in the region is expected to draw thousands of local sports fans from the different member schools during the opening ceremonies.

“It sure is a distant area for the member schools and the spectators to go to but with the preparations we are doing I believe it will be worth the trip,” Antonio quipped.

The first phase of the collegiate sporting season will see competitions including basketball, chess, badminton, table tennis, sepak takraw, swimming, and archery.

Meanwhile, second phase events seen to hit the net on January will have volleyball, athletics, wushu, taekwondo, softball, baseball, football and judo.

Other members of the ten-school conclave are Baguio Central University, Philippine Military Academy, Pines City College Inc., University of the Philippines-Baguio, and another La Trinidad based school Benguet State University.
