BAGUIO City may spend P2.5 million for the hosting of the Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic (CARAA) meet in February 2015.

Department of Education (DepEd)-Division of Baguio Supervisor for MAPEH Fernando Eleponga told Sun.Star Baguio the department is currently waiting for the city to approve the proposed allocation.

He said the proposal was already presented to Mayor Mauricio Domogan during a meeting held last month and awaits official endorsement to the city council.

"I have already presented the detailed expenses needed for the hosting to our mayor," Eleponga said.

According to Eleponga, the early request is to make sure the city is fully prepared in hosting the regional sports meet.

He mentioned upon approval from the city council, the DepEd division will already proceed with the preparations.

"Kapag meron na tayong pondo from the city, uumpisahan na natin yung execution ng mga plans. Actually we already started," Eleponga said.

In 2009, Baguio City spent P2 million for the event.

According to the DepEd, P500,000 of the total budget will be used for the purchase of medals alone.

"We should really focus in preparing for the event, yung eliminations natin sa division should already be the dry-run since dun natin makikita kung ano pang mga kulang if ever," Eleponga stressed.

Close to 5,000 athletes from Abra, Apayao, Benguet, Mountain Province, Kalinga, Ifugao and Baguio City are expected to participate in the meet.
