BARANGAY Lourdes Proper posted their second straight win for the season after downing Irisan Barangay, 85-72, in the ongoing eliminations of the 5th Samahang Barangay Pangkalikasn-Lawana Cup 2014 Invitational Basketball Tournament.

After trailing by as much as 13 points in the first three periods, the Lourdes squad bounced back Saturday afternoon at the Sanitary Camp covered court.

The Dominican based squad leaned on shooting guard Mark Lester Viray, dropping 13 points in the fourth canto.

"Mas naging maganda yung execution ng team sa fourth quarter, yun ang nagpanalo sa amin. This is still a team effort, kahit pa marami akong naging score lahat pa rin naman kami did our role sa team and yun ang importante," said Viray, who poured in a total of 23 points in the game.

From a two-point deficit, 58-60, at the close of the third period, Barangay Lourdes stepped up in their offense for a 17-6 run to steal their first lead in the ballgame with Viray and Mike Buangan leading the floor for a 75-66 edge in the payoff canto with 3:56 left in the clock.

Irisan tried to recover from their hapless shooting as Joseph Orbillo and Bryan Flores lifted their team for a 79-68 gap with 2:13 left in the period but fell short as Dave Stapely made his presence felt in the painted area scoring the last six points that sealed the win for Lourdes.

"We managed to widen the defensive approach in the second half that is why we were able to recover. Talagang naging go-to man namin si Lester and the whole team managed to maintain good ball movement kaya nanalo kami today," said Lourdes playing coach Buangan, who added 15 points, while Stapely finished with a double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds.

Jonas Gacula led Irisan after scoring 20 points as Oribillo scored 16, while Herdy Addon and Flores finished with 15 and 10 accordingly.

Earlier, Bakakeng Central drained Ambiong in overtime 109-108, while Trancoville secured its second victory after escaping a gritty Barangay Kagitingan, 75-73. (Mark Victor Pasagoy)
