8th Baguio Day Cup tips-off Aug 17

SOME 50 local amateur squads from Baguio City and Benguet are expected to open their bid as the 8th season of the Baguio Day Cup Invitational Basketball Tournament opens on August 17 at the Easter College Gym.

Basketball fanatics from this side of the region will once again showcase and test their skills in the annual tournament made part of the city’s charter anniversary.

Tournament coordinator Edwin Edades said the basketball season incorporates the purpose of promoting camaraderie and healthy competition among the enthusiasts of the sport.


“The tournament aims promote physical health, sportsmanship, and brotherhood amongst our participating teams,” Edades said.

Edades added the tournament is shaped as a venue for creating and helping local sports enthusiasts in cultivating a better community.

“With the annual tournament we generally keep a strong bond among our participants and the next generation of basketball enthusiasts in this side of the country,” Edades added.

Baguio Day Cup was conceptualized to deliver a competitive play of basketball within the city by awarding trophies to its champions including the giving awards to its exemplary players.

The 8th season expects to tip-off with four different brackets divided according to the team’s skill level in basketball.

Officiated by the National Amateur Basketball Referee’s Organization-Baguio, the tournament expects to run from August until October.
